Speaking at the Vogue Fashion Festival in Paris, Bella Hadid opened up about her struggles with mental health.

Her mother’s always been her mentor:

Bella: She never pushed me to do modeling but she always told me to do what I want to do. I thought I would do horse-riding for the rest of my life and go to San Francisco to study photography… but I think everything happens for a reason. My mom always encouraged me to be myself, her strenght makes mine. She’s the best mother, the best mentor and I know how lucky I am to have her by my sides.

She keeps in mind a mixed memory from her very first casting : 

Bella: My first casting ? It was in New York. I wasn’t confident at all and didn’t like my face at all… by the way, if someone was present during that casting, I’m very sorry.  I don’t know if it was the fact that I’m young but if I remember, I didn’t get that job. I was too nervous when I first started.

Her first photoshoot with Steven Meisel had a big impact on her career

Bella: My first photoshoot with Steven Meisel was supposed to be a portrait. I arrived at 7.00 in the morning, we started working at arround 4.00 pm. Then he asked me to get back there the following day. The day after, I went to his studio and there were about 15 incredible portraits of myself he took the day before. I should have take a picture but I was too nervous. Afterwards, I putted on a sublime Prada outfit. I shooted in the street in front of that portrait of myself, which became Vogue Italia’s next cover. It was one of the most incredible experience. It has changed my career but myself too, as a model but also the way I see myself today.

She felt sexy for the first time during Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty show:

Bella: Rihanna is amazing, to me, it was the very first time I felt really sexy. Before Fenty, I did others underwears catwalks, but I never felt as strong as I felt this day. I always felt good in a smoking or a nice night dress but I never felt confident while wearing underwears. During one of Rihanna’ show, you can walk the way you want. I love to play someone else. Sometimes, I love to be someone else than myself. Rihanna just told me what she expected from me, and I walked the way I wanted to just as being myself.

Anna Wintour is one of the personnality who intimidate her the most.

Bella: She intimidates me, but in a good way. I think she has very great advices to give and I watch most of her videos. When I first met her, I was shaking but I always respected her and her work : as a woman and as personnality in the fashion industry.

She knows her strenght. She studied photogtaphy :

Bella: Since I’m 9, I’ve always been fascinated by photography. I never leaved my camera. I used to take pics during my horses’ shows whose I sold after. I’ve been working in the fashion industry since I was 17. I moved to New York, and started studying photography at the Photographie à la Parsons School of Design.

She has a very typical skin care routine.

Bella: I’m very consciencious when it’s about my skin care routine, and mainly on a plane, like I’ve spent about 92 hours on a plane last month. I wash my face with attention at first and I have some serums that I like to add, like hyluronic seum to get my face hydrated. And this, for hours, it’s a huge procedure.

She never left her (crystaux)

Bella: To be calm? I call my agent totally panicked, and then I feel calm! Most of the time, I bought my crystals with me. My mother knows a lot about crystals and my little brother too. Together, we share our crystals and I always keep them with me. I also have a lot of essentials oils. They keep me healthy. I also bring a lot of candles whenever I go. Thanks to them I feel like home, even if I’m in a different hotel each day. Sometimes, I love to travel with a friend of mine because I’m alone most of the time. Having someone with me keeps me calm.
