Bella Hadid Beauty Routine: Her Skincare Tips & Tricks

With 14.3 million Instagram followers, Bella Hadid needs no introduction. Gracing covers and campaigns around the world, the it-girl & supermodel lets us in on her skincare & makeup tips & tricks. Let’s face it, Bella Hadid’s beauty looks are A*.

But first of all, we had to ask her about her dream Instagram filter. She told us: “If I were to design a filter I would choose one that makes your skin look super glowy. I love a pared-down natural look so I love filters that make your eyes a little bluer and make your skin look like you want it to everyday; gorgeous and glowing.”

She also revealed her beauty girl crushes: “My two girl crushes are India Love and Rihanna. They are such an inspiration through their style and beauty. I also love my fan accounts. I’m best friends with all of them but have never met them. There are so many beautiful women on Instagram.

We also had to ask her for her step-by-step beauty routine. It turns out that she nails it just with three easy steps…

Rule One: Prep

I love doing face masks! They are my best kept secret for flawless skin and keeping my make up in place. They also make the best treat for a girls-night-in pamper. In my busy schedule, my mask time is me time. It’s sometimes hard to find a spare 10 minutes but when I do I choose to relax and let my mask work its magic. It leaves my skin instantly plumped and glowing and acts as the perfect base resulting in #Nofilterneeded makeup. My favourite is Fresh Jelly Mask £44 Dior.

Rule Two: Apply

When it comes to makeup I like to keep it simple. I tend to opt for a look that focuses on my eyes rather than lips. For every day, I pair minimal make-up with lashings of mascara. Whether you’re wearing mascara or not, always curl your lashes- it makes all the difference!” Eyelash Curlers £12 Eyeko.

Mascara is my go-to. You can get so many looks from one product- from baby lashes to va-va voom volume you can have it all with one wand. Pump ‘N’ Volume Mascara £25.50 Dior leaves my lashes super long but natural, it’s like I’m wearing falsies. I don’t usually wear mascara on my bottom lashes but for an occasion I love to add one or two coats to take my look from day to night. When I wear shadow I love gold-taupe shades as they compliment my highlight that I am never without.” Bella loves 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in Adore £45 Dior.

Rule Three: Maintain

I have a new love of my life… loose powder! It’s amazing, I can’t believe I didn’t know about it before. I carry it everywhere with me. It’s great for when you are on the go and need to re-set your base. Being in the limelight means I always need to look my best so topping up is a must. I apply powder down my t-zone and nose, concealing where needed.

Glamour loves Mineral Veil £21 Bareminerals.

For a flawless pro-like finish I swear by buffing your foundation into your skin using a beauty blender.” GLAMOUR loves Silicon Sponge £14 MakeupDrop.”

Rule Four: Amp it up

For an amped up look I add an elegant, feline flick in either black or brown liner or, if I really want to make a bold beauty statement, I like to add a pop of colour to my look. My favourite shade is cobalt blue, it’s fun but still wearable.” Chisel Liner in black £16 Ciate.

Bella Hadid On Recreating Her Dewy Makeup And Fixing Damaged Hair

Bazaar sat down with woman of the moment and face of Dior make-up Bella Hadid to talk all things beauty, from her product obsessions to her empowering beauty message…

Growing up, how adventurous were you with make-up?

“I wasn’t really into red lips or anything like that but I grew up in Malibu where we didn’t wear a lot of make-up. I always loved make-up and colour and seeing amazing eyeshadow looks on the runway though. In our Dior campaign, I’m wearing this beautiful blue shadow – but when you have someone like Peter [Philips, creative and image director for Dior] putting it on you, of course it looks incredible. But growing up, I was the opposite. I loved black eyeliner; I would really pack it on. My 14-year-old punk side was really proud of me.”

What beauty question are you asked the most?

“It’s funny because I guess I do this particular make-up look a lot – dewy skin with a little liner. People always ask me what my highlighter is. It’s the Maximizer* and I carry it with me everywhere and put it on my whole face. I had it at the Victoria’s Secret show and was putting it on all of the girls.”

Who was your beauty muse growing up?

“Looking back, maybe Elizabeth Taylor. Of course you have the 90s supermodels but also the women from the 40s and 50s who were kind of the ones that started doing the strong eyes and lips. When was Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the 50s or 60s? That whole Audrey Hepburn aesthetic was absolutely stunning, so that’s probably the direction I would go in.”

How do you look after yourself during and after shows?

“I’m pretty much at the end of fashion week now. My skin is tripping out and I think my hair got washed four times yesterday, so usually I like to do a lot of masks. I like to not wear make-up also. I have a few weeks off in August so I’m going to drink a lot of water, do a lot of detoxing and try and get my body back to the way I like it to be. So, lots of hair and skin masks and just giving my body what it needs.”

From your position of influence, what kind of beauty message do you hope to portray?

“I think that what’s so beautiful about make-up is that, if you love it and you feel beautiful wearing it, you can wear as much as you like. But if you feel you don’t need to or if you don’t like to, that’s also fine too. It’s something that can empower you if you want it to but if not then so be it. So the message towards young girls is to just be who you want to be. Make-up is a powerful thing and nowadays it gives so many girls so much confidence. It’s sometimes an intense subject but you can learn so much now and if you love it, you can learn exactly how do to it – but it should never be stressful. It’s a fun thing.”

Vogue UK: night out with Bella Hadid

810_281329.jpg810.jpg810_28529.jpg810_28829.jpg

What is it like to go on a night out with Bella Hadid? Well, according to the model, the tone of the night is set by the getting-ready process.

I really enjoy the whole process,” she told us when sending over her photo diary from the Dior, Art of Colour exhibition in Arles, France, last week. “I’m lucky to have the best glam team! My make-up artist Naoko Scintu and my hairstylist Jen Atkin truly have the best energy and we always the best time creating looks together. We mostly listen to hip hop when we’re getting ready – Drake is nearly always in the playlist.”

Since the exhibition focuses on Dior’s beauty history, from Serge Lutens through to current Dior make-up creative and image director, Peter Philips, the make-up look for the night required particularly careful planning.

Bella’s look was loosely based on a Christy Turlington vibe in the early Nineties but we wanted to keep the make-up modern, so skin was kept super fresh and dewy with brows filled in with Diorshow Brow Styler in Universal Dark Brown,” explained Scintu. “We used a champagne pink fluid shadow by Dior Addict on her eyelids to replicate the feeling of summer in the South of France – where we were in Arles – and lashings of mascara on the outer corners of the eyes for a sexy feline effect.”

Lips were kept semi-glossy with Dior’s much-loved Lip Maximizer, a product Hadid has picked out as a favourite in the past. And nails? “I currently have a nude pink. Going from show to show this week and with attending so many events I just like to keep them as fresh and neutral as possible,” the model confided.

The dress, too, had a summery and youthful sensibility ideal for the South of France: “Bella and I loved the new Dior Resort collection and she wanted something that felt elegant and timeless, but with a little bohemian vibe, so the lightweight lace corset gown we chose was just perfect for Arles,” her stylist Elizabeth Sulcer added.

A quick dip in the pool before hair and make-up, a bite to eat before heading out for the night, a wander through the pretty streets of Arles with fellow model Winnie Harlow, and an exhibition hosted by the brand she calls her “family”? Sounds like a fun night out to us.

5 things you didn’t know about Bella Hadid

You don’t have to be a runway devotee to have noticed that Bella Hadid has become a force to be reckoned with. The 20-year-old sister of Gigi Hadid has fully stepped out of her sister’s shadow, with high-profile fashion show appearances, magazine covers, and multiple print campaigns under her belt. But a certain proclivity for publicity doesn’t mean she’s an open book: Here are five things you probably didn’t know about Bella Hadid.

1. Hadid began riding horses “since [she] could walk” and developed into an accomplished equestrian.

“You know how every model is like, ‘I do yoga?’ Well, I find horses have the same effect,” she once said. In 2015, Hadid revealed that she was even training for the 2016 Olympics. Her mother, the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Yolanda Foster explained in a January 2016 blogpost that her daughter’s equestrian ambitions were curbed by her having contracted Lyme disease. (Her mother and brother, Anwar, both also have it.) “She is resilient and focused on a new direction,” Foster wrote. “She’s made a name for herself in the modeling industry while she struggles with symptoms of chronic Lyme every day.”

2. Before she followed her sister’s footsteps to the catwalk, Hadid moved to New York to pursue a degree in photography.

While she reportedly had been interested in the subject since childhood, it took time for her to adjust to being in front of the camera. “There wasn’t really one time in my life where I was like, ‘I want to be a model!’ It was more Gigi’s thing,” Hadid told Teen Vogue in 2014. “I do like being in front of the camera more and more. Having experience behind it has taught me about lighting and angles, how to move, and what looks good and what doesn’t.”

3. Hadid dyed her naturally blonde hair brown to distinguish herself from her older sister.

“I just have a darker personality. And my sister being blonde and me being brunette, it’s a good separation,” she has said. “I put a blonde wig on and think it would be fun to go back, but I’m happy with my hair. Blondes are so angelic. My sister can get away with anything.”

4. According to the model, she is most often compared to another well-known face:

Jennifer Lawrence. (“Multiple times a day,” says Hadid.) They eventually found themselves face to face at the 2015 Met Gala. “I don’t even know if she knows that. I swear we made eye contact,” Hadid has said. “I had to shake her hand while we walked in, and I was like, ‘This is so weird.’ I don’t know if she did a double take or whatever, but it happened.”

5. Hadid doesn’t consider her very public split from The Weeknd to be her first big breakup.

While battling Lyme disease, a 16-year-old Hadid made the tough decision to part ways with who she considered her first true love: a horse named Lego. “I rotated between a few horses that could jump higher or whatever. But Lego was my main, my ride or die,” Hadid revealed in an interview this February. “When I had to sell him, it was like a breakup! I was really traumatized.” Hadid continued: “You can ask any equestrian: You develop a crazy, emotional connection with this animal. When you’re riding a horse, they have full control over you, and they can literally kill you in a second, so you build a trust with them.” After that type of trauma, a tabloid-ready split’s nothing.

Bella Hadid reveals the scent that is most nostalgic from her childhood

Bella Hadid reveals the scent that is most nostalgic from her childhood

Bella Hadid all but shut down the entire city of Rome last week when she waltzed down the Spanish Steps solo to celebrate the new Bulgari perfume, Goldea Roman Nights, for which she is the face of the campaign. The 20-year old beauty stunned in a strapless vintage Galliano gown with a thigh-high slit and lace skirt as she walked down the iconic monument (which by the way, is very rarely closed to the public, a spectacle in and of itself.)

Could she be a better fit? After all, the sexy fragrance, with notes of bergamot, a spice of black pepper, and a hint of patchouli, is all about a young woman celebrating a beautiful night out in one of the romantic cities in the world.

During the press tour for the launch of the fragrance this week, we sat down with the model at a picturesque lunch atop a hillside overlooking the entire city of Rome, where we asked her about what it feels to be the brand ambassador and how her mom influenced her connection to fragrance.

Tell me why you wanted to be the face of this fragrance?

I’m so lucky, obviously, to work for Bulgari. It’s my first fragrance, I’m so excited about it, and you know we shot it here in Rome and it’s such an iconic brand. It’s such an honor for me. I just saw the commercial today and I freaked out, it’s the most amazing thing. It’s still shocking. I don’t really know how it happened, but I ‘m so excited.

The commercial is awesome It looks dangerous. You’re walking on the roof high above the Roman skyline.

Yeah, it was a roof. I mean, there was something underneath, but I was walking actually on the side of the building. Then I had to jump off this thing on the balcony. It was crazy. It was a scary day, but it was so much fun. I love stuff like that. I’m such an adventure person.

What about this particular fragrance do you really love?

Well I love that it’s made from flowers but also—I feel like it’s very feminine, yet it’s also kind of masculine. It’s not just like a vanilla or a rose, it’s like all of it put together into such an incredible scent. It’s a great perfume, and I think that instead of just wearing something just a little flowery this one gives it a little bit of a punch.

Are there any scents from your youth that are nostalgic to you?

Yeah, for sure. I think for some reason cardamom always makes me think about my childhood. My mom always used to wear the most beautiful Jo Malone perfume, so every time I smell that it always reminds me of her, and I’m sure she’s going to love this perfume too, so maybe we’ll be able to swap her.
